Each individual is different. How we understand our health and illness is different. Some people smoke. Others don’t ; Some people exercise..Others start and then they quit; Some quit smoking after a heart attack…others don’t.
How we explain, understand and perceive our behavior influences our health. Consequently, our aim is to initially understand each individual’s values, perceptions and beliefs and then implement a person-centered program which will aim to reinforce health behavior change or better adjustment to illness which will be maintained in the long-term.
We implement a holistic approach which emphasizes coping, self-management and empowerment by focusing on the present. A process within which patients and their families receive, practical and theoretical information to understand, adjust and cope with illness and reinforce individuals to change to healthy behaviors, adopt new lifestyles and improve their quality of life.
Through this process, individuals gain an understanding of the challenges they are facing during the diagnosis and treatment. They also gain significant knowledge on their internal and external resources, coping ability and their own areas of strength and thus they are more in control of the condition and have greater capacity to work with professionals towards their condition.
